DRUM TAPS

DRUM TAPS I Walt Whitman, Gwas Gregynog, Gaylord Shanilec I The Art Of Craftsmanship Revisited, Governor's Island NYC, 2010

Shanilec's stunning woodcuts are reflected on both the ends and the cover of this binding. Some of the first known photographic images were from the civil war period, capturing portraits of soldiers and the aftermath of Antietam and Gettysburg. Having sourced images from the Library of Congress, these were then reproduced using half-tone polymer plates, and both the ends and leather inlays were printed using this technique to great effect. Bound in Black and green, with surface gilding.
